Arbor Day

                                        Arbor Day

Arbor Day is celebrated globally although the dates may be different around the world, the celebration remains very much similar. Arbor Day from the Latin arbor meaning tree is a holiday based on individuals and groups whom are encouraged to plant and care for trees.

Looking back on the history of this holiday, it is said that the Spanish village of Mondonedo held the first documented arbor plantation festival in the world organized by its mayor in 1594. The first American Arbor Day was originated in Nebraska City, Nebraska on April 10, 1872, an estimated one million trees were planted in Nebraska on its first Arbor Day. During the 1870s, other states passed legislation to observe Arbor Day, and the tradition began in schools nation-wide in 1882. The Arbor Day Foundation has an interesting document outlining the history of Arbor Day.

Arbor Day is celebrations vary around the world.  Variations include 'Greening Week' in Japan, 'The New Year's Days of Trees' in Israel, 'The Tree-loving Week' of Korea, 'The Reforestation Week' of Yugoslavia, 'The Students' Afforestation Day' of Iceland and 'The National Festival of Tree Planting' in India.  Any way you want to celebrate it, Arbor Day is a great way to celebrate and recognize our Earth by planting a tree.

Today many people use Arbor Day as a great reminder to inventory the trees on their property and to plan for the future. You can inspect your trees, take note of their health and make plans to improve their health if necessary. Think about how planting trees may improve the look of your property, provide wind and or heat protection.

At Tree In A Box we believe that every tree that is planted on Arbor Day is one more oxygen producing shade creating, biofilter that we and our future generations will benefit from. We also believe that even if you do not live in place with a piece of property to plant a tree does not mean you can’t join the celebration of Arbor Day. All of the tree kits we sell can be grown indoors and makes an excellent Bonsai.

Look into your local celebrations, or even organize something on your own the Arbor Day Foundation has a whole page dedicated celebration ideas and Tree In A Box would love to be a part of your celebration.
